PROBLEMS AND EVALUATION OF GREEN REVOLUTION-C

The green revolution was blessing for India but it gave rise to certain problems and in economic and social front.
Firstly it was restricted to wheat only. It has not covered the most important crop like rice which is staple food of very large no. of people.
In terms of area covered the green revolution could not spread in those areas which were not covered by assured water supply. It has been estimated that only 7% of cultivable land is under high yielding varieties coverage.
It has spread in the states of Punjab Haryana, some parts of U.P. and few pockets of states like Gujrat & Tamil Nadu.
It is also presumed that green evolution was revolutionized in at the cost of other cash crops and non food crops like sugarcane cotton oil seeds jute pulses etc..
Further it has been developed and used in raising output in ravi crop only.
It was a costly farming because of use of modern inputs like use of hybrid seeds chemical fertilizers, pesticides etc. These are costly items. In other words it was a program for large farmers and land owners who were already bitterly equipped. They had exclusive access to input as well as marketing of the product.
